My Reflection

Photo of two men communicating.

In my speech class, we were separated into three groups and were delegated a chapter to present to the class. This meant that we would be in charge of teaching the class. This had initially made me nervous because this was something out of the ordinary. In all my college experience, it was always the professor who lectured while I would eventually doze off. However, my spunky professor, Sherri, had flipped the roles and I can honestly say this approach was far more interesting.

My group was in charge of teaching the class chapter three, "Intercultural Communication". I can confidently say that I am grateful for my group. There were no problems and everyone was able to agree on things easily. We all chose to make Ana our group leader and she was able to equally divide the chapter sections for us to create our slides and present. Now, when it came to the day of presentations, I was not filled with nervousness, just tiredness. However, I was excited to present because I enjoyed the sections I was given and I was really proud of the slides I created.

Group two was in charge of presenting chapter nine, "Communicating in Groups". When group two began presenting, the first thing I noticed was that they chose a more professional look in their slides. While my group used a more colorful and visual theme, they used a more neutral and informative approach. I really enjoyed their presentation because they provided the class with more information without making it feel like it an overabundance amount of information.

Group three was in charge of presenting chapter ten, "Group Leadership and Problem Solving". Group three took a more minimalist approach with their presentation with black text on a white background and pops of color with their photos, charts, diagrams, etc. It gave their presentation a very clean look. They also provided enough information where I was able to understand the whole chapter without having to actually read the textbook.

Overall, I can confidently say that I enjoyed Sherri's way of teaching, where we are taught by our peers instead of our professor. She made it more fun to learn! I loved the varieties in everyone's presentations. It really gave personality to our presentations. This was a good way to kick off the 2021 summer semester and I can't wait for the progression of this class!!
